Next Semester

Hi to all our Off-Campus Tribe:

This semester has been a whirlwind. I can't believe it is already past. It seems like yesterday that I was talking with many of you about midterms and all the assignments you had left to write. I was reminded of all the work that I still had left for this semester. Yes, we do work in Student Development (contrary to popular belief). Now I look across the campus and it is empty and void of all of you. I think I saw a tumbleweed roll across campus yesterday. I can't wait to have you all back next semester. So my two bit advice for you this Christmas, please take some time over the holidays to sleep in, get lots of rest and visit your family and friends. I was reminded of a devotional a week ago which talked about "Selah" the ending to many of the Psalms. The word selah means "silence" or "rest." I pray that your Christmas may filled with "selah moments" for you, so that you will be ready to go next semester.

Selah,

Kelly

Reality Cheque

Wow! I was just sitting here, minding my own business, when reality handed me a cheque for four years experience at Prairie. Seriously though, it hit me today that I have been here for almost four years, and I have almost four months left. Four months?!?!? It seems like no time at all since I was a scared, confused little freshman (sorry to those first years reading this) and now I'm looking through a cap and gown!
What are your guys' (and gals') thoughts on being a senior/junior? What kind of legacy do you hope to leave behind? Let us know...

Hi all you faithful readers! Just a heads up; we the OC staff are missing several pieces of contact information from several of our constituants. So, if you could email your Student ID, ox number, Birthdate, Phone number, and address, that would be great. Don't worry, this isn't a scam ;) Anyway, please send it to prairieoc@yahoo.ca

Are you really thankful?

I know, I know, it's thanksgiving weekend. A time to gather with family and down pounds of "fair trade" turkey. It has occured to me more times than once, that often the weekend blows by and we have gained 10 pounds and had lots of laughs. But actually how much time was spend really in thanksgiving? I don't want to slap a downer on you but wouldn't it be nice even once a year, to really set aside some time over the weekend to be truly thankful; to take even a few minute of silence and thank God for all his goodness to us. To thank God for his grace and mercy, his love and forgiveness, his tender compasssions, his spectacular sun rises and sun sets, his provision in our lives, clean water and good food, a roof over our heads and a place to rest our weary bodies. Paul writes to the Ephesians church: 5:15Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I hope this thanksgiving that you and I can set aside some time in the midst of fun and family to be thankful to God for everything. What a great way to have a great thanksgiving. So from our family to yours, have a great thanksgiving, and hey, take it easy on the Turkey!

Healthy Eating on a Slim Budget Seminar

Are you getting tired of always having "KD". Not that there is anything bad with those noodles and sauce but when you have them four times a week, it is probably not a good choice. Your body craves more good nutritious food. In light of that fact, we have some great news for you. On Thursday November 28, a David Thompson Health Region nutritionist Erin P. will be here to give you some awesome ideas for healthy eating on a slim budget. So if you are finding yourself not eating healthy or making poor choices in your food groups this seminar is for you. Just so you know that I will definitely be there. One year at college, we went out for my friend's birthday and I blew one entire week's food budget on supper. So for the next week, I ate animal cookies and drank tea. Yes, animal crackers-I can't stand them now. I have dreams of lions and tigers and elephants- Oh my! Hope you can joins us Thursday November 28th from 7-8 p.m. at the Economics Lab.

OC Visitor Billeting

Hey all you fine folk! How you all doing today?
Do you have a room that can convert into a spare bedroom in a sinch? Looking to meet new and exciting people?? Want to secretly (or not) be a host/hostess but have no idea where to start??? Well, the OC community needs people like you to sign up to be hosts when a fellow OCer has a visitor coming to see them. Take for example, a person has their boyfriend coming up from Texas to visit them. They, being an all-girl house, would find it awkward to have a boy suddenly in their midst, so they send out a HELP to the OC Billeting hotline (ok, so its an email, not a red phone, what were you expecting?) The friendly person on the other end hooks them up with an all-guys house that has a spare room they can use for their visit. The OC Billeting hotline is also available to people putting out ads for roomates. To contact the hotline, simply type prairieoc@yahoo.ca into your email send list, and subject it OC Billeting. Your email is important to us, and we really want to help.
Cheers,
Ryan

Welcome (back) to the Off-Campus Community!

As the new school begins, this will be the place to go to for information about the activities and services specifically for the Off-Campus Community.

Whether it is praying with and for you, information on what sales are going to be most adventagous in stretching your food budget, sharing heart-to-hearts, appliance exchanges, or putting together a break-loose activity when your semester is going crazy, we as the Off-Campus Leadership team are committed to providing you with the resources and opportunities to make your time in the Off-Campus Community, amazing and enriching.

We look forward to new adventures as we learn to live in community together,

Off Campus Dessert Auction

Location: Upper Banquet Room
Time: 8:00 PM, September 15
Who: Student Households Living Off Campus
Cost: One(+) Dessert / household

This is a household event, so if you are thinking this is one of those cheesy 'match-making' events where a guy buys a girls dessert, and then 8-10 months later, marries her, you will be sadly mistaken.

This will be a time for you to:
Test out your brand-new kitchens
Bond together as a household making (or buying) a delicious dessert
Put faces to the Off-Campus comunity
Learn about fun things happening specifically for the Off Campus Community.
Eat together with old and new friends, as we catch up on our summers/lives

This is how it'll work.
  • Together as an off-campus household make, coerce or purchase a delicious dessert to be auctioned off at the event.
  • At the auction, your household’s dessert will be purchased by the Auctioneer for a packet of Monopoly® money.
  • This money is to be used to purchase the dessert(s) of your household’s choice.
